So many, many books from so many, many places by so many, many writers in so many, many times past, present and future, Why write? Why does there always have to be more books written by new and more authors?
Because life is not static. Because although there's nothing new under the sun, each sunrise brings a new day with new events and experiences to write about that must be told and read. And because things change, life transforms into new ways and new ideas, just to keep up, to cope up, books of imagination and actuality must be written. Because of inspiration. Because if your heart and soul feels called to write, then write you must. And write you will.
I remember when I had first read (I've read it several times since) the amazing Women Who Run With the Wolves by the indomitable Jungian psychoanalyst, Dr. Pinkola Estes. That was one of those many books that changed my life; one of those books that stepped into my soul and left its footprint. It was one of those books that grabbed my heart and would not let go. Yes, It transformed me. I can never forget her command when completing that book. She had written about the vitality of stories. She didn't recommend but urged me (us) to go out and tell my story. Although, I already loved writing and had been doing it since a child; nevertheless, I had not engaged my story. I got up off the couch, looked at the blank page and instantly began filling it up with whatever came to mind. It was a beginning.
Since that time, and prior, my home tells the story of the love of books. Books of all kinds and genres. The beloved Tony Morrison said that if there was a book that had not been written but she needed to read it, then she would write it. I get that. I have responded in kind, recognizing the several books that haven't been written that need to be written.
No doubt, if you're called to tell your story, then you have your book to do, get done and get out. Let nothing stop you. Although many, many books from so many, many places by so many, many writers in so many, many times past, present and future have been written, yours has not. Unless it already has been in which case we need to know its available, or soon coming.
Why write? Because without writing, without record, without books we're back to and limited to an oral history and communication. Of course, we're way too advanced for that and although we've come a long ways Baby, we still got a long way to go. We need to hear from each other. The dialogue must continue to be advanced. Our survival depends on it. Yes. Write or perish.
